Richard Feierabend, Soccer Referee

Richard C. Feierabend, 4014 Longwood Drive, Fredericksburg, Virginia, collapsed and died during the Regional Clinic in Baltimore on Saturday, March 1. Richard was first registered with USSF in 1991, became a Grade 7 referee in 1998 and an instructor in 1995.
 
CPR was begun immediately upon Richard's collapse, paramedics arrived within 5 minutes, and a team of doctors met the ambulance when it arrived at Maryland General Hospital, located two blocks from the location of the physical test. Despite the best efforts of everyone involved, they were unable to resuscitate him.
 
A memorial service will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, with Pastor Chris Brown officiating. Internment will be at Quantico National Cemetery.

Richard retired as a Commander from the U.S. Navy after 25 years of service. He was a member of Calvary Chapel of Fredericksburg, a member of the Soaring Club of Front Royal, and a member of the Rappahannock Soccer Referee's Association.
 
Surviving are his wife, Patti Feierabend; a daughter, Krista Feierabend of Fredericksburg; a son, Rick Feierabend of Richmond; his mother, Eleanor Feierabend of Ohio; two sisters, Joyce Waltz of Ohio and Chris Worthy of South Carolina; a brother Cliff Feierabend of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
 
All of us in the soccer referee community are shocked by this tragic event, deeply saddened to lose one of our own, and are very concerned for Richard's wife, Patricia, and other family members.
