The State Referee Committee and the MDCVSA Neptune Soccer Classic Adult Tournament Committee are pleased to announce that the 10^th annual Referee Academy at the Neptune Soccer Classic will be held on August 4th, 5th and 6th, 2017.  All matches for the Neptune tournament are played at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach. The Academy will kick off with a Referee Dinner/Meeting on Friday evening, August 4^th, 7 PM (location to be announced) in the Virginia Beach/Chesapeake area. 

Rick Eddy, US Soccer Federation Director of Referee Development, will be our lead instructor.  He is currently a National Referee Coach, and is a USSF National Referee Emeritus, and former MLS AR.

The Academy will be held on fields where Men’s, Co-Ed and Women’s Premier, Competitive and Recreational matches will be played, including semifinals and finals on Sunday. The Neptune Soccer Classic uses a 40-minute half format for all matches.

If you are a Grade 6 or 7 referee – at least 18 years of age or older - who has officiated as a center referee at the adult level for a minimum of 2 years and you are interested in improving your skills as a referee, especially at the adult level, please apply for this academy. If selected, you will receive feedback from State Assessors and National Referee Coaches as well as tournament referee pay for all of the matches you officiate. Mileage is not reimbursable.  GRADE, AGE AND EXPERIENCE ARE NOT WAIVERABLE.  YOU MUST MEET THE ABOVE CRITERIA TO APPLY.

All Grade 7 referees who are applying MUST have been or be assessed NO LATER THAN June 15, 2017.  This is an extension of the previously announced date of May 30, and is not waiverable.

We will select 12 referees from the state to attend the Academy - 6 from outside the Hampton Roads area and 6 from southeast Virginia. Housing (double occupancy) and meals will be provided for all referees who are selected.

The SRC is committed to providing opportunities for you to grow professionally and we are excited to team up with MDCVSA and the Neptune Soccer Classic for this referee development opportunity. If you have the desire and think this will benefit you, please apply NO LATER than June 23rd.  Late applications will not be considered.  Selections will be announced by July 7, 2017.
