The State Referee Committee and the MDCVSA Neptune Soccer Classic Adult Tournament Committee are pleased to announce that the 11th annual Referee Academy at the Neptune Soccer Classic will be held on August 3, 4, and 5, 2018.  All matches for the Neptune tournament are played at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach. The Academy will kick off with a Referee Dinner/Meeting on Friday evening, August 3 at 7 PM, location to be announced in the Virginia Beach/Chesapeake area.   YOU MUST BE ABLE TO ATTEND THE ENTIRE EVENT, INCLUDING ALL MEETINGS.

Please note that this event is the same weekend as the Grade 6 Upgrade Clinic.  If you are planning to attend the upgrade clinic, please DO NOT apply for the Neptune Academy.

At the present time, we are awaiting confirmation of our lead instructor/mentor.

The Academy will be held on fields where Men’s, Co-Ed and Women’s Premier, Competitive and Recreational matches will be played, including semifinals and finals on Sunday. The Neptune Soccer Classic uses a 40-minute half format for all matches.

If you are a Grade 6 or 7 referee – at least 18 years of age or older - who has officiated as a center referee at the adult level for a minimum of 2 years (A WAIVER FOR LESS THAN 2 YEARS’ EXPERIENCE MAY BE CONSIDERED) and you are interested in improving your skills as a referee, especially at the adult level, please apply for this academy.   If selected, you will receive feedback from State Assessors and National Referee Coaches as well as tournament referee pay for all of the matches you officiate. Mileage is not reimbursable.  YOU MUST MEET THE ABOVE CRITERIA TO APPLY.

All Grade 7 referees who are applying MUST have been or will be assessed AS A REFEREE, NO LATER THAN June 10, 2018.  This is an extension of the previously announced date of May 30, and cannot be waived.

We will select 12 referees from the state to attend the Academy - 6 from outside the Hampton Roads area and 6 from southeast Virginia. Housing (double occupancy) and meals will be provided for all referees who are selected.  Each attendee will work a minimum of 1 game as a referee and 3 as an AR over the two day event.  Some will work 2 middles and 2 lines, but no one will do more than 2 games per day.

The SRC is committed to providing opportunities for you to grow professionally and we are excited to team up with MDCVSA and the Neptune Soccer Classic for this referee development opportunity. If you have the desire and think this will benefit you, please apply NO LATER than June 15.  Late applications will not be considered.  Selections will be announced by July 7, 2018.
