DCV Referees Shine at Region 1 Tournament

Several Selected to Participate at Nationals in Frisco, TX

The Metro DC-Virginia State Referee Program is pleased to announce that Region 1 selected several DCV referees to participate at US Youth Soccer National Championships in Frisco, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, July 24-29, as a result of their excellent performance this past weekend.

At the Regional tournament, all of the Virginia referees worked the semi-final matches, with many having the center assignment.  The next day, half of our referees were assigned to the finals.  Out of 148 referees from all of the states, only 10 could be selected for available slots for the championships.  Chris Levesque and Jeff Davis were selected, however, Jeff had to decline as he was also selected for a referee academy.  Alex Addison was selected to replace him.  In addition, Shawn Fitch and Charles Carson were chosen as first alternates should someone have to drop out.

Another referee, Shannon Poplstein, was invited to the ODP National finals in March 2008.

Besides the outstanding efforts put forth by each individual referee, the success of the Virginia delegation can also be attributed to the leadership of Mark Turner, who headed up the delegation, and assessors Chuck Watts, Peter Baum, and Jeff Kelley, who mentored and encouraged the group.

Congratulations to all of the referees and assessors for a job well done!
